How to Set Up a Reddit Brand Profile Before You Advertise

Before you advertise on Reddit, set up a branded profile: a username with your brand name plus "official", 2 to 4 posts on the profile only, a 256 x 256 px profile picture, a short description, 1 or 2 links, and a 1920 x 384 px banner. Your ads run under that profile, and people check it. It takes under an hour, and it makes your brand look real.

Why does your Reddit brand profile matter?

Your ads run from a Reddit profile, and Redditors click through to see who is behind them. A profile with no content looks like a throwaway account. A profile with real content and clear links looks like a brand that means it.

How do you choose a username?

Use your brand name plus "official", like YourBrand-Official. It tells people who you are, and it can sometimes come in handy if Reddit accidentally bans or locks your account.

What should you post on the profile?

Post 2 to 4 images or videos about your product to your profile only, not to any subreddit. The goal is simple: when someone checks your profile, they see real content about your product, not an empty page. Pin those posts to the top of your profile, so they don't get pushed down if you later decide to publish content through the Reddit account.

Reddit brand profile checklist

Should you post in subreddits as the brand?

Be careful. Moderators protect their communities, and many subreddits ban self-promotion. In organic marketing, posting and commenting from a brand account can get you banned, and Redditors quickly call out anything that feels like astroturfing.

  • Be open about who you are. Never post as a hidden brand account or from fake accounts. It can break advertising laws in the EU and USA, and Reddit's rules.

  • Start with ads. They introduce you without breaking community rules.

  • Move into organic slowly, by helping people in the open. See Reddit organic vs paid.
