Brand Search Lift: The Reddit Ads Effect Nobody Measures

Brand search lift is the rise in people searching for your brand name after you start advertising. In our experience, almost every client we've run Reddit ads for has seen one: the day the ads launch, people get interested in the brand. It's the Reddit effect that the dashboard can't show and most advertisers never measure. We haven't seen Meta create the same kind of lift.
What is brand search lift?
When someone sees your ad, they often don't click. They remember your name, then search for it on Google, an app store or Reddit later. That shows up as more searches for your brand, more direct visits and more organic installs, not as a Reddit conversion. The lift is real, but it lands in other reports.

Why does Reddit create brand search lift?
People research here. Redditors read threads and comments before they buy, and they check what others say about a brand.
Reddit is searchable. Threads show up in Google, and about 55% of Reddit's website users weren't logged in in August 2026. Many of them arrived from a search.
Ads start conversations. With comments open, people ask questions about your brand, then Google you. See Should you turn comments off on Reddit ads?.
What does it look like in real examples?
An iOS app. The cost per install looked unsatisfactory, and our analytics couldn't attribute Reddit installs. We paused Reddit ads for 2 weeks. Organic installs dropped by about 50% and stayed at that lower level. Even after adjusting for other factors, we calculated that analytics was missing about two thirds of the install events Reddit drove. See the app installs case study.
A young company on Google Ads. This is where we first learned the idea. The company had only 3 to 10 clicks a month on its brand queries. It took us 6 months to notice we'd started spending money on those queries, and that competitors were bidding on them too. For 6 months almost no one knew the brand. A funnel that makes people choose you before they're ready to buy is worth far more than it looks.

How do you measure brand search lift?
Record a baseline for 4 weeks before you launch: branded queries in Google Search Console (clicks and impressions), Google Trends for your brand name, direct traffic in your analytics, and organic installs if you have an app.
Launch, and track the same numbers every week.
Compare before and after. Note anything else that changed: a launch, PR, seasonality or other ads.
If you can, run a pause test. Pause Reddit ads for 2 weeks and watch branded search, direct traffic and organic installs.
Put the result next to what Reddit reports and what your analytics reports.

How should you report Reddit ads with brand search lift?
Use three views together: the Reddit Ads dashboard, your website or platform analytics, and the before-and-after comparison. The third one is what most advertisers skip, and it's often where the lift shows up. See the Reddit attribution gap for why the dashboard alone under-reports.
What are the limits of brand search lift?
It's correlation, not proof. Other activity can move branded search too, so keep the test windows clean.
Our examples are small case studies from our own clients, not controlled experiments.
Don't cut or scale a campaign based on lift alone. Check your sales data.
