Reddit Search Ads: What We Know About Ads in Reddit Search

Reddit search ads aren't a product you can buy yet. Early testing is expected around Q4 2026–Q1 2027, and from what we know, they'll run only on keyword targeting, as an automatic placement. For brands priced out of Google, they could become a cheaper way to reach competitor and niche searches. Here's what we know so far.
This post is part of our Reddit ads roadmap. Dates are estimates and can shift.
Are Reddit search ads coming?
It looks that way. On Reddit's Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman said Reddit is "starting to look towards ads on that surface." COO Jennifer Wong said she thinks "ads would be well represented on search" and that Reddit has "the infrastructure" for it. No launch date was given.

How will Reddit search ads work?
Here's what we expect. Details and timing can still change.
Keyword targeting only: search ads are expected to work only with keyword targeting. Your keyword list decides which searches your ad can show up for.
Automatic placement: search won't be a separate campaign. It's expected to be one more placement Reddit picks for keyword-targeted ad groups.
Who should use Reddit search ads?
In our view, the best fit is competitor and niche keywords that got too expensive on Google. On some Google searches, competition is so fierce that return on ad spend falls below 1, which means you spend more on ads than those sales bring in. Reddit search could reach the same people at a lower cost. We'll know once we can test it.
Competitor names, when people compare options before buying.
Niche terms: specific problems and product types your buyers search for.
"Best X for Y" and "X vs Y" searches, where people want real opinions.
What's already testing in Reddit search?
Shopping carousels: since February 2026, Reddit has tested product cards in search results. Some pull from Dynamic Product Ads catalogs.
Shopping Listing Ads (alpha): a carousel of products from several brands, matched to high-intent shopping conversations like "what should I buy?" threads. A wider rollout is expected in 2027.

Why would ads in Reddit search matter?
People search Reddit when they're close to a decision, often by adding "reddit" to a Google search. An ad that shows up right then reaches someone already looking for an answer. That's a different moment from the feed, where people are browsing.
How do you get ready?
Check your Google search costs. Keywords where return on ad spend is below 1 are the first ones to test on Reddit.
Build keyword lists now: competitor names, niche terms and "best X for Y" searches. Test them with keyword targeting today, since search ads are expected to use it.
Connect your product catalog and set up the Reddit Pixel and Conversions API. Search shopping tests pull from catalogs.
Find the threads where people ask for recommendations in your category. Note the exact words they use.
Check how your brand comes up in organic threads. An ad next to bad reviews won't fix them.
