A Reddit ads audit is a check of your account from tracking to reporting. Use this free checklist of 25 checks. It takes about an hour, and you need access to Reddit Ads Manager and your own analytics or store data. In our experience, most failed Reddit campaigns are setup problems, not Reddit problems.

How do you use this Reddit ads audit checklist?

  1. Open Reddit Ads Manager and your analytics side by side.

  2. Go through each section and mark every check yes or no.

  3. Fix the noes in order. Tracking comes first, because every other number depends on it.

Reddit ads audit checklist overview: 25 checks in 6 sections, tracking 6, campaign setup 5, targeting 4, creative 5, budget and pacing 3, brand and reporting 2

Tracking: 6 checks

  • The Reddit Pixel fires on your key pages: product, cart, sign-up and thank-you pages.

  • The Conversions API is set up, and its events are deduplicated with the pixel.

  • Purchase events send order value and currency.

  • Every ad link has UTM parameters, ideally with Reddit's dynamic URL parameters. See our naming convention guide.

  • Reddit clicks and your analytics sessions roughly match. In one account, 2,265 paid clicks turned into only 1,046 sessions.

  • Apps: your MMP is connected, and you compare its installs with Reddit's.

Campaign setup: 5 checks

  • The objective matches your goal. Want sales? Don't run a traffic campaign. See Reddit campaign objectives.

  • Cold audiences and remarketing run in separate ad groups or campaigns.

  • Each ad group uses one targeting type: communities, interests or keywords.

  • Automated targeting is on or off on purpose, not by default.

  • Cold traffic runs in the feed. Check conversation placement clicks before you keep paying for them. See Reddit ad placements.

Targeting: 4 checks

  • Your communities match your buyer, not just your topic. See Reddit's Ideal Community Persona.

  • Your audience is big enough for your budget, so the same people don't see your ad over and over.

  • Countries and languages match where you can sell and ship.

  • People who already bought are left out of cold campaigns, when your setup allows it.

Creative: 5 checks

  • Each ad group has 4 to 6 ads.

  • Headlines are short and clear. See how to write Reddit ad headlines.

  • Ads look native: real photos, honest words, no stock images or obvious AI art.

  • Comments are on, and someone replies within 24 hours.

  • Ads are refreshed when results drop, not on a fixed calendar. Reddit creative often lasts 3 to 4 months. See Reddit ad creative lifespan.

Budget and pacing: 3 checks

  • Every ad group gets at least Reddit's $5 a day minimum.

  • Your test budget is big enough. In our experience, that's about $6,000 over 3 months ($2,000 a month).

  • You make one or two big changes a month, not small tweaks every few days. Big changes restart Reddit's learning.

Brand and reporting: 2 checks

What should you fix first?

Fix tracking first, then the objective, then targeting. Creative tweaks won't help if Reddit is optimizing for the wrong thing or can't see your sales. Our Reddit ads not converting guide goes deeper on each fix.

Reddit ads audit: FAQ

How long does a Reddit ads audit take?

About an hour with this checklist, if you have access to Reddit Ads Manager and your own analytics. Fixing what you find can take longer.

What's the most common problem in a Reddit ads audit?

In our experience, tracking and the campaign objective. Many accounts buy cheap clicks with a traffic campaign when they want sales, and can't see what happens after the click.

How often should you audit Reddit ads?

Do a full audit before you scale or change strategy, and a quick tracking check every month.
